town hall

The doors locked the warmth in
As whispers jostle the handles
The huddled mass therein contained
Speak with fire by flickering candles

The weight is witnessed through distraught eyes
The gravity of their discourse, the rage it instills;
Their calm demeanor this all belies
As their mouths speak to undo the enemy’s ill wills:

The health and humor is kept hush these days
The laughter lay sleeping in the shadows of smiles
As the men and women learn to hide their natural ways
And perform their duty whilst knowing all the while

The white men, not of race but collars
Hold all the sway in the king’s esteem
Outside the masses scream and holler
As the bulletproof madmen piss on the dream

Inquiring of the poor the nature of their malice,
These men who storm huts and raid caves,
“Please do not hurt if you cannot help us,”
Say the meager mouths these men deprave

Throughout this huddled candle room
The limbs of trees extended cordial hands
Letting their roots intertwine even as fear looms
Remembering that words are water sprinkled across the land.
